The Odenheimer Sea Lion Pool, which was built in the 1920s, serves as a popular venue for weddings and other social events. WPA workers constructed a 28-foot-tall grassy mound known as the Monkey Hill in the 1930s. The manmade hill enabled children to experience this geological feature unknown in New Orleans. Now a play area, the hill has a waterfall, rope bridges and an observation point for children to survey the park. The African Savanna exhibit has zebras, rhinos and giraffes, and the Asian Domain is home to elephants, bears and a rare white tiger. The free-flight Audubon Aviary has over 30 species of colorful birds, including the nearly extinct Blue-crowned Laughingthrush. The Dinosaur Adventure enables guests to experience primordial natural habitats of these fascinating creatures, and the Swamp Exhibit depicts life in the nearby Louisiana bayou. Cool Zoo is an animal-themed splash park with a variety of slides, fountains and pools.

Visitors can view historic buildings and sculptures located throughout the grounds. The park preserves Depression-era structures with bas-relief exteriors and the statue of Mr. Audubon located near the entrance that was unveiled four years before the park opened in 1914.
