St. Patrick’s Day Delights

Published by John Stavely at 11:33 am under Events and Happenings

St. Patrick’s Day is a popular Holiday in the United States. In 1737, Irish immigrants in Boston celebrated the Day for the first time. In 1766, the original St. Patrick’s Day Parade was held in New York City. Since then the Green wearing, Guinness drinking, corned beef eating revelers have made March 17th a day to remember.  Here’s a list of the 10 most popular St. Patrick’s Day Parades to attend.

If you’re jaunting out to celebrate like a leprechaun this year make sure to bring a Shamrock for good luck, a Shalale for good measure and a few Irish toasts for good manners.

Here are some of my favorites:

“May you have warm words on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
and the road downhill all the way to your door.”

“I drink to your health when I’m with you,
I drink to your health when I’m alone,
I drink to your health so often,
I’m starting to worry about my own!”

“May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light, may good luck pursue you each morning and night.”

“As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never point in the wrong direction.”

“May the hinges of our friendship never grow rusty.”

“Saint Patrick was a gentleman,
Who through strategy and stealth,
Drove all the snakes from Ireland,
Here’s a toasting to his health.
But not too many toastings
Lest you lose yourself and then
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see all those snakes again.”

So grab a Black and Tan, put on your favorite green outfit and dance like no one is watching…   Slainte!
